Water Views and Islands

This waterfront home, though large, has a cottage feel to it, which was epitomized by the old kitchen. It was cluttered and crowded with outdated appliances lined up against one wall. And though it faces the bay, the views were lousy and obstructed.
We revived this space without changing its square footage, but doubling the storage capacity and making it open and beautiful. Doorways in the kitchen were moved just slightly to gain more room for counter space and to improve the traffic flow.
The new layout is a more user-friendly workspace, with a new traffic pattern to direct the flow out of the workspace, but still easily accessible.
The kitchen is now home to two islands. The first holds the large farm sink, directly across from the cooktop. And the second island sits just outside from where the kitchen wall used to be, but now connects the kitchen into the sunroom. Both islands have an overhanging countertop where barstools offer seating convenient to the kitchen and sunroom.
With the appliances clad in white wood to match the surrounding cabinetry, the countertops in a polished black granite, and the continuous Brazilian cherry flooring throughout the home, the pops of red from various household items really pack a punch of vibrancy.
The homeowners are thrilled with the new space and can’t wait to entertain their friends, families, and neighbors- something they haven’t done in over 20 years!
