This couple with two active young boys wanted to update their kitchen in their town home in a water front community. While the kitchen space in their 3-story town home could not be expanded, removing part of a wall expanded the pass through, opening the space up and providing more light and clear sightlines to the dining and living space. In addition to the kitchen, a small study area was created for the boys and the custom architectural features added to the fireplace area in the family room tied the whole space together.
This contemporary design features:
- Slab front light maple cabinets with a luster finish that add shine to the space while the dark gray crown molding and toe kick provide a nice contrast and ground the space.
- The mosaic glass backsplash behind the cook top as a dramatic focal point for the sleek design.
- A custom built pantry that provides plenty of storage.
- A custom built pull out cabinet drawer with utensil canisters.
- A custom designed asymmetrical wall detail that highlights the contemporary fireplace and lighted display nooks.
- A large pass through created to join the dining area with the kitchen and provides plenty of serving space and allows natural light to fill the kitchen.
In addition to using the dark gray accent color to contrast the light maple cabinets, the homeowners chose to use warm shades of purple with gray undertones in the adjoining living spaces. Now, as you walk up the stairs to the main kitchen and living level, you’re greeted with a warm yet contemporary living space with the kitchen as the heart of the home.
