French Country Estate
Originally built in 1958 in a Neo-French style with a Mansard roof, the house was composed of a central portion flanked by matching wings. Over the years, this house was poorly added to and so extensively modified over the years that the original charm had all but disappeared. The new owner of the house wanted to improve the house’s appearance by giving it a distinctly French look with fine detailing and a strong presence. The entire house was gutted, and everything in the central block above the second floor line was demolished. Raising the height of the main block of the house allowed for a full height second floor as well as a spacious third floor. This also provided a much needed hierarchy to the composition that allowed for a stately and elegant main body, appropriate for a classic French Manor Estate. Major alteration was done on the interiors to alleviate an awkward floor plan and poorly outfitted spaces. The interiors now display a sense of refinement which derives from thoughtful proportions and details, tall windows with ornamental transoms and elegant cornices of uniquely French Form.
