A thorough renovation was required to satisfy the client’s request for a new wood-paneled library with adjoining reading space. Raised butternut paneling and custom classical details were chosen to complement the existing Georgian residence. The room’s angled corners feature arched niches which frame ornamental shells, supported by Doric pilasters. At the chimney breast, fluted Doric pilasters frame the custom mantelpiece which is enhanced by hand-carved side scrolls and finished with a carved pulvinated frieze and center panel. The reading alcove, opposite the chimney breast, is framed by an elliptical arch supported by compound pilasters that wrap the corners of the opening. The center bookcase beyond is finished with an elliptical arch and houses a TV hidden behind the doors of the lower cabinet. When activated, the TV automatically lifts up into position atop the counter shelf. Elliptical windows at the lounge-type window seats are thoughtfully positioned, the one pictured affords the client with cherished views of the harbor beyond.
