This project was split into two major phases due to the extensiveness of the work. After the detailed design phase, we started construction in the Spring of 2021. Phase one of this project was the building of a detached 480 sq ft garage ADU with a living space on the second floor featuring a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and small living room area. Once phase one was complete, our clients moved into their new ADU (along with their cat and 3 dogs) and they were able to store their furniture and other belongings in the ADU’s garage.

Whenever possible, we let our clients stay in their home during a remodel project if they desire to. We keep our projects tidy and as minimally invasive as the scope of work allows, so clients that stay in their home are as comfortable as one possibly can be with a construction team wielding power tools in their home 5 days a week. Sometimes projects are just too extensive to allow for that, and this was one of those projects! With the clients moved into their new ADU and the existing home empty and ready for remodeling, phase two of construction began in the Summer of 2021.

This century old home was incredible to begin with, but outdated and showing the many years of wear and tear. It was important to us and the clients to maintain the character of this historic home and keep some of the original materials and design elements while also making the home functional for modern life and beautifully refreshed. We harmonized the new with the old and reused existing molding, doors, doorknobs, and other key features. Rather than erasing a piece of Boise’s history, we helped continue the story of this beautiful home for many years to come.
