For this project our clients hired us for a full remodel of their master bathroom to make it possible to age in place in their forever home. They had a big corner tub that they used less and less as time went on, and their shower entrance had a big curb that could be easy to trip over later in life. We removed the corner tub that was going unused and replaced it with some great cabinets for storage and a little bench area that the homeowner was happy to inform us was her beloved cat’s new favorite window spot. By taking out the tub, the layout is more spacious for moving around and allows for greater storage as well as easier cleaning. We transformed the shower into a curbless shower with grab bars everywhere that provides much easier access, all while looking luxurious and even more beautiful than before. Nothing about it looks “old folksy”.

In the kitchen, we did new countertops, new backsplash, new island, and updated the small backsplash of the niche. The kitchen island had a two-level bar with a weird upper ledge around it that you see in a lot of 90s and early 2000s kitchens. Not sure why the two-level kitchen island was such a big thing 20-30 years ago. It certainly puts you far away from all your other tasks and separates whoever is in the kitchen from the people at the bar, dining area, or living room. This home’s two-level island had a lot of corners and edges to it and took up a lot of physical space but didn’t provide a lot of useful countertop space. The homeowner wanted a more open, inviting layout where their grandkids, family, and friends could hangout while she’s cooking. She’s Italian and loves to cook and was dreaming of a central space where loved ones could participate in the kitchen, or just hangout and gather. We tore out the big bulky kitchen island, squared it up, and gave them a big, beautiful surface to work on that feels much more open and allows for more seating. We were able to make everything feel a lot roomier and more central. The updated backsplash is unique and old world feeling and fits the client’s personality and style well. This client also wanted some gold hardware that is very in style, but we didn’t remodel the entire kitchen, so we had to thoughtfully bring in gold even though gold hardware isn’t featured throughout the existing elements. We were able to find a way to bring in gold by using it in the dark blue lower cabinetry of the kitchen island which looked nice. A darker hardware would have been lost in the blue, so she got her wish for the gold hardware.
