Mariane's Shade Planting Style
The Spring display in our own shade garden. We planted out a north facing garden with a wide variety of shade tolerant plants, cold hardy for zone 3-4 and mostly native species. The garden at this moment is heavenly scented with thousands of Lily-of-the-Valley and a large Korean Spicebush hedge.
This area of our garden provides us with year-round interest and requires little maintenance and watering. Most of these plants are sourced locally as we like to use small local growers and nurseries to ensure that the plants are grown in similar soil, climate and pests. We do not purchase plants for our clients that are shipped in out of our state and zone due to the fact that the plants do not have enough time buried in the ground to cope with our freezing temperature and the duration of our winters.
