This property is located in Potsdam, NY on the Raquette River. We were honored to collaborate with Grater Architects from Clayton NY who designed the main house and guest cottage for this property.

Our role as landscape architects was to blend the new construction to the existing landscape and provide our client with areas for entertaining and relaxing. We introduced a landscape maintenance regime to change a predominately 'surburban' grass lawn areas and an over pruned and cleared out of the woods understory to an organically controlled natural environment with less mowing. We introduced native wild flowers, trees and shrubs and emphasized the fact that the gardens were to provide natural habitats and food sources for the birds, insects and wildlife. We also included a full working fruit garden with local farmers supplying blueberry, raspberry and grape plants for a guaranteed crop and in keeping with the hardiness zone for the extreme winters common to this area.

Native plants and trees were used on this property including the establishment of a wild flower meadow. Eleven thousand perennial plugs were planted in the meadow and careful management is undertaken to preserve this area for insects and bird-life. No chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides are used anywhere on this property.
