We were asked to redesign a tired terrace and steps that were raised above the grade and made out of imitation decking that was falling apart. The homeowner is a fabulous gardener so we wanted to showcase her planting by creating a terrace that was 2 ft lower and placed on grade so you felt apart of the plantings and garden experience. We selected natural bluestone paving and steps that will not date and have lasting durability. To create privacy and to contain the view within the garden Mariane designed a horizontal cedar fence with a sliding barn door mechanism. The new sunken garden is accessed by the door and side path. Future outdoor furniture and a gas fire pit will complete this terrace.
