Tomahawk Lake House

Set along the confluence of two rivers, a long-cherished wooded site has been in the family for years. When our client acquired acreage next to her parents, we were commissioned to design a new house. She wanted a comfortable and relaxed getaway that would blend in with its natural surroundings and function as a year-round, multi-generational retreat.

Inspired by early 20th century houses nearby, this retreat features lots of entertaining space, six bedrooms and baths along with private getaway areas. Various porches extend the living space to the outdoors and a glass overlook crowns the three-story stair tower providing a 360-degree view of the forested site.

At the request of the client, the interior is mostly wood; clear colors in textiles and other elements are a counterpoint to this feature and enliven the rooms on snowy and rainy days. The interiors have been designed to transcend time and to afford flexibility and durability as the family and life evolves. See more photos of this project.

The solution for the master bedroom was to create a gazebo-inspired “addition” which pairs the bedroom with a screened porch. The outcome affords privacy from the main house and a fantastic view of the magnificent site.
