Transitional Kitchen Began with a Table...

After eleven years in their 1980s home, our empty nester clients needed changes to their kitchen to accommodate their present lifestyle. Their distressed wood farmhouse table was the one thing they wanted to save, and it became the reference point for the style of their new kitchen. We preserved the traditional while segueing to a fresh new look with touches of contemporary. This project won an NARI MN Chapter honorable mention Contractor of the Year award for kitchens $90-120K and was featured on the ASID Kitchen Tour and in Twin Cities Metro magazine.
The new kitchen includes a larger, more functional sit-up island with a prep sink and textured soapstone countertop. The island cabinets are distressed knotty alder in black-glazed cream with black turned posts. Photography by Ehlen Creative.

The new kitchen combines three cabinet finishes and two countertop materials. The cabinet doors below the television open to reveal a breakfast station with coffee maker and toaster.

With portions of walls removed, the kitchen is now more open to the formal dining room and is easier accessed from the foyer. The original distressed farmhouse table inspired the finishes of the new kitchen.

The backsplash is marble mosaic tiles with an inset of decorative glass and metal mosaic tiles above the range.

New mullion-free corner awning windows maximize backyard views. The mini chandelier above the sink is art glass, the faucets are copper, the undermount sink is quartz and the engineered quartz countertop sparkles with flecks of copper.
