Bel Air Traditional Residence
After 25 years living in a celebrated Quincy Jones designed residence, the clients embarked on a new chapter, trading mid-century modern for the storied charm of a 1930s Bel Air traditional home. While the property boasted gracious proportions and exquisite original detailing, its layout suffered from an impractical circulation flow, with access to the primary bedroom awkwardly routed through disjointed areas of the house.
The transformation centered on a graceful architectural intervention: a sweeping quarter-circle connector space, bathed in natural light from expansive windows framing the backyard, now bridges the family room and primary suite. This curvilinear addition not only resolves the home’s inefficiencies but also introduces a lyrical flow, guiding occupants intuitively to the revitalized master retreat. Enhanced amenities including custom walk-in closets, a private exercise studio, and a bay window crowned with French doors opening to a terrace elevate everyday living into an experience of refined ease.
New exterior massing, windows, and finishes were meticulously calibrated to honor the home’s 1930s character, ensuring the addition feels elegantly rooted in its heritage. Acclaimed designer Carla Champion curated all interior finishes and furnishings, layering timeless textures and bespoke details that resonate with the home’s traditional soul. The reimagined layout balances logic and artistry, transforming circulation from a daily frustration into a seamless, sensory journey.
