The tall, slim pullout to the left of the refrigerator provides convenient storage but it also moved the refrigerator enough to the right that the doors can be opened wide enough not to impede pulling out crisper drawers.

If you look closely at the wood on the cabinet doors and drawers, you can see the difference it makes when the cabinet manufacturer makes their own doors. They can really control the lumber grading to create a consistent and pleasing look.

The old deck need replacement. I recommended a curve to give it interest and to create a feeling of immersion with the trees and other foilage. The contractor used a series of slight angles instead of curve, to save money, but it worked just as well.

In the original design the refrigerator was too close to the doorway to get the left door open enough to pull out crisper drawers, it also did not have a built-in look. The 12" deep upper was essential useless.

The location of the microwave was to removed from the work area and stuck under the upper cabinet as though it was an afterthought. The original cabinets had yellowed, except for the cabinet sides which maintained the original color of melamine.
