With the kids finally on their own the owner wanted to update her kitchen. Function and appearance were key elements but the individual rooms ( kitchen, nook, family room and living room) were compartmentalized so the design addressed issues of flow and connection across the main level.

Wider arched openings were used to connect the kitchen with the living room. New, wire-brushed wood flooring was used through the main level and the kitchen pass-through was completely opened to open the site lines. The old entry door was replace with a fiberglass door with a half-lite. All the baseboards and casing was upgraded.

A drywall-wrapped beam provide a large opening to the kitchen and its visual impact was miniimized by using a bullnosed drywall bead (no sharp edge). The half-wall was kept higher to a point that provided the right backdrop for the couch.
