Fort Mill Main Level 2

This was a redesign and makeover of the main living area that would bring the home up to and past current new home offerings. To save cost, the design integrated new cabinetry on the island with the existing cabinets on the perimeter. The latter were enhanced with new moulding, new hardware, undercabinet lighting, new backsplash tile and granite counters.

The pantry door is has a full-lite panel with textured semi-opaque glass. The key element was angling the wall so that the refrigerator doors could open fully and not keep the crispers from pulling out.

The perimeter cabinets were original but give a new look by using a complementary granite, new hardware, undercabinet lighting and new tile backsplash. A lazy susan was installed in the old base corner cabinet when the tops were off. The island cabinet is new as is the patio door and casement...

The soffit was painted to match the ceiling and the sharp edge was softened with a bullnose corner bead which made it largely disappear. New windows on either side of the fireplace and recessed lighting corrected the strong light gradient in the previous space.

The tile texture mimics the hand-scraped finish of the floor. Because it has a sinuous, but linear texture, plug mould under the cabinetry was used to eliminate outlets and switches. An air switch on the counter controls the disposer.

This view shows the visual flow that was enhanced by changing to a casement at the sink, putting in a new slider from Pella which had built-in shades (no window treatment) and by turning the corner at the fireplace wall with new windows to the left and right of the fireplace.

This photo show clearly how we used the Copper Mist granite to pick up the color tones in the perimeter cabinets. Extending the counter with a curve created a place for the trash receptacle. A better solution that adding another cabinet.

This close up illustrates the texture and pattern of the backsplash tile. A light rail moulding was added to the existing perimeter cabinets to give it a more finished look that would pair much better with the new island cabinetry

Client had an heirloom stained glass panel that dated to the mid 1800's. We created a niche and backlit the glass.

This shows the old nook area and sliding door. The table was replaced by the new larger island, the floor break from vinyl to carpet was eliminated with the new wood flooring, and the need for shade treatments on the slider was eliminated by the built-in shades of the new Pella door.

The wall to the left of the refrigerator kept the left door from being fully opened and therefore access was difficult. The wall in the new design was angled.
