Bright Bold Feminine Living
Hearth/Family Room
Objective: The client challenged us to transform the much used family room in the home from its former neutral “shabby chic” persona to one with more vibrancy and sophistication. We wanted to give this client a fresh and much deserved new living space without sacrificing comfort and coziness. The design of this family room literally started from the bottom up. We had the old weathered pine floors lacquered white then a custom pattern lacquered over in a vibrant peacock blue. The finished floor makes a dramatic style statement but more importantly a smooth surface for little feet. Eggplant lacquer walls are separated from the fuchsia lacquer ceiling by deep moldings in white. A pair of over-scaled sofas covered in a luxurious velvet flank the fireplace, giving ample space for the family to curl up to watch a movie together. The large upholstered cocktail ottoman is great for playing games, propping everyone on the sofas feet up and also storage for games and cozy blankets. A pair of old wood ottomans with woven tops from Northern India inspired the color palette for the room so they were paired in elegant contrast with tufted wing chairs in eggplant. Serpentine bunching chests in bisque faux shagreen and consoles in gold leaf with Carrera marble tops add elegant touches and provide lots of surface space for lamps and cherished family photos. The brilliant ikat roman shades with fuchsia tape on either side of the fireplace compliment the teal drapes with white Greek key trim overlooking the patio and pool.
Living Room
Objective: The client wanted the living room of this historic home to remain traditional but with a new
elegant vibrancy. The sofa had been the client’s Grandmother’s and has strong sentimental value so we decided to have it rebuilt and give it a makeover. In addition to recovering it, adding new structural supports and cushion fillers, we added Lucite legs and decorative trim to give updated glamour to the antique treasure. The antique trunk pulled from storage and raccoon needle point are also cherished family pieces and provide foundation for the space. The old textured wallpaper and ceiling were given new life with high gloss lacquer while the silk drapes with pagoda style cornice boards add pattern and drama. The grand wing chairs help balance the scale of the room and the limited edition chintz brings the color palette together. Blown glass candelabras and chandelier add modern elegance in coordination with the peacock painting purchased by the designer while on a buying trip to Nice, France. The built-in bookcases display lamps, and accessories, but most importantly family photos and treasures.
