Contemporary Vibe w/Natural Elements
Living Room
Objective: Our objective for this living room was to remove any and all elements that looked traditional or “French Country”, without moving any structural walls.
After many plan revisions, we arrived at a solution. To accomplish our goal, we removed three arches along the stairwell, closed in the opening between the kitchen and the original dining room, removed the pony wall of the stairwell, and removed the sloping French fireplace. These actions greatly simplified the architectural aspects of the room and gave us a clean slate to incorporate sleek and modern elements. We created a living area with clean lines, added seating options, and a space that doubles as the “formal” living space.
We added color to ceiling and a custom natural stone fireplace with a sleek firebox. We added an open railing with a custom walnut handrail made locally. The natural antler chandelier was custom designed, and created by a local artisan for this space and finished in a white lacquer to take something that is typically traditional, and add a modern feel. We brought in all new upholstery, rug, lamps, accessories, mirror, and accent ottoman to create the modern, yet warm space for this family to gather.
Hearth/Family Room
Objective: For a family of avid readers and board game players, our goal was to create a functional space to do just that.
To establish this family room, we closed off the original dining room from the main traffic area to create a space that is separate, but still feels connected by the design elements contiguous with the rest of the home. We wanted this room to be calm and relaxing, elegant, and personal to this family. The chandelier adds the pizazz and elegance to the room.
The choice of original artwork contributes to the feeling of serenity. The wooden tables add strength to the room, while bringing in a natural element that contrasts beautifully with the overall sleek and clean design of the home. The choice of pillows and throws were essential to make you want to snuggle up and relax. Finally, we incorporated plenty of books and personal collections from around the world to bring the important personal touch that this new space needed.
Kitchen
Objective: Our objective in this kitchen was to leave all appliances in the same location, but add additional workspace, storage, and revamp the design of the kitchen to feel new and modern.
The first step for this kitchen remodel was to remove everything that was brown and traditional. The island was greatly increased in size and functionality. The new and improved island includes added hidden storage, a charging station, double trash bins, and a new breakfast or seating area. Light display was added to the cabinets, and light fixtures were updated throughout the kitchen.
Our clients desired the perfect island countertop, resulting in multiple trips to several stone distributers throughout the state to search for the perfect piece. When this perfect piece was found, it became the driving force for the colors throughout. The walls and perimeter cabinets are the same color family, with different sheens. The hood finish replicates old grey steel, and the backsplash adds a modern flair and works to tie all the colors together.
We added a breakfast table and chairs to give the family a dedicated space for daily use, but also to serve as the dining are when additional family and friends visit.
Powder Bath
Objective: We were asked to convert the existing powder bath from traditional to more modern in keeping with the rest of the newly renovated home.
We removed the existing vanity and created a new floating vanity cabinet topped with a gorgeous slab of figurative marble. The new vanity provides more storage and gives the space a clean look without losing function. The large simple square frame mirror adds to the minimalist vibe of the room and new lighting gives it a warm inviting feel while still accenting original art work from the clients growing collection. The antique rug was purchased by the husband in Israel and pays tribute to the heritage of this family. The vibrancy of the rug is the perfect juxtaposition to the contemporary art.
