Open and Airy Highland House

Objective: To create a new home that looks like an old stone structure converted into a modern day family house.

With a central section of the home we worked with H Design to add “wings” to the center structure and give this family a place to gather. Tumbled stone fireplace serves as the core to this project. Beams, vintage rugs, leather, exotic woods and a collection of family pieces all come together to create a collected home.

In the dining room, a ten foot dining table, double buffets, double mirrors and lamps all sit under the “hickory tree” with floral wallpaper and a delicate butterfly pattern printed on linen to create a soft inviting gathering room.

Connection to the opposing family room is the heart of the home - a huge kitchen. A seventeen foot island allows everyone to gather, work, cook, eat, and fellowship with all attending. The island is made of natural hickory with a quartz top that feels and looks like marble. This acts as the anchor and provides generous storage.

Cobalt blue oven doors add the pop of color to break up the massive space. Handmade tile from England are the backsplash and were used to create strength and balance. A hidden pantry painted in Robin’s Egg Blue was chosen from a photograph taken by Nathan of a nest of eggs at his Grandmother’s home.

A vintage inspired bathroom serves as a place for guests to feel like they are in a restored barn/farmhouse. Butterfly wallpaper, again, brings nature inside, paired with a live edge hickory countertop.

This home consists of 5 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, multiple living areas, 4 covered porches, a pergola and stone planters – all coming together to make a perfect home.
