Township 28
Objective: The developer and architect asked us to help in creating an apartment complex that was clean and modern with the feel of historic row houses. At the center of the complex would be the community center and offices and they asked us to help create an eclectic interior with an exterior that evokes the sense of the neighborhood corner store.
We chose the polished concrete floors, exposed brick, store front glass and an exposed truss ceiling to pay homage to the industrial and commercial facilities that dominated the area before its recent surge of redevelopment. We furnished the bright open space with an eclectic collection of seating and accent furniture that gives a modern nod to industry and reclamation. Distressed leather, reclaimed wood and forged iron work in contrast with vibrant rugs and polished metal accents. We had historic photos of the area enlarged to create dramatic visual statements on the walls.
