Crowe Kitchen

Our company had the opportunity to meet with our clients in June of 2009 to discuss the possibility of a difficult kitchen remodeling project. During the initial consultation we learned that the home was 220 years old. The home is situated on the property where the family runs their cattle and farming business. The kitchen in this home is used to prepare meals for, not only the family, but also for their farm hands. This home has been in the family for many generations and the family has no intention of moving. Given the age and structure of the home, the owners were skeptical of the ability to remodel the space effectively.
The Challenges and Concerns:
- Uneven sloping floor.
- The outdated kitchen was not up to electrical and plumbing standards and the fixtures were in desperate need of replacing.
- The walls and ceiling were plaster and lathe in disrepair.
- Original to the house the cabinets were not only well worn and dysfunctional, but lacked a sensible layout.
- Modern amenities were a must, but preservation of the old farm house style was a priority.
- Budget, as is a concern with anyone, was not to be overlooked!

The Solutions:
- We jacked up and braced the floor from underneath with I-beams left from an onsite farm project years ago.
- Ran new electric and updated existing.
- Installed drywall on walls and ceiling
- Created a new functional layout with planned appliance locations and modern conveniences such as a TV.
- In keeping with the older style of the home we installed new custom cabinets with large styles and rails to compliment the large casing and base trim found throughout the home. We included natural products such as stone tile and granite countertops. We installed a rustic distressed oak floor. Pewter faucet, hardware, and lighting were installed as a final touch.
- To keep cost down we refaced a custom hutch/pantry cabinet instead of replacing it. We also found a pre-made island with butcher block countertop at a fraction of the cost of a custom piece.
