Farm House
Farm houses hold a special place in our hearts. The hold a history that is so often generations and/or will be passed on for generations to come. Unfortunately, they often haven't seen an update for generations at a time. Most of the time a project is out of necessity...another bedroom, bathroom, or the simple fact that it is falling apart in disrepair and can't be ignored any longer. In this case it was in part of necessity, but mostly a long-time desire for an updated kitchen, large usable dining area, and sitting area to visit.
This kitchen and dining area doesn't only serve the homeowners, but the farm employees as well. For this reason we maintained a tile entrance that extends up to the eating area at the kitchen cabinets, allowing for easy care and maintanence. The entrance is large enough for all to come in and kick off their boots before entering the rest of the addition. Additional cabinet and counter space offers plenty of room to prepare meals for the troops.
Details are found in the matching window and door casings, the wood floor that carries throught out the new living room area, the new dining area, the kitchen, and through the existing hallway and office to tie the addition seemlessly into the existing home.
Special attention was given to keep the floors of the addition (which were flat and level) transfered to the existing floors (anything but flat and level). The existing kitchen floor was completely removed and reframed to maintain this seemless transition.j
