Harris Bathrooms
The story:
The homeowners were interested in remodeling their existing master bathroom to accommodate her deteriorating health. She was facing possible confinement to a wheelchair and severe vision loss.
The Challenge:
Our client wanted a luxurious bathroom that looked like a spa, but yet, equipped for physical challenges. They did not want a bathroom with a hospital appearance. Maintaining a desirable, marketable home was important.
The Project Focus-Incorporate Universal Design:
• To gain adequate space for a large barrier-free shower, we incorporated the unwanted existing powder room with the master bathroom.
• We created wider doorways to the bedroom and bathroom for wheelchair access.
• Elegant, oil rubbed bronze grab bars placed strategically throughout the bathroom and shower improve safety.
• A comfort height toilet was installed for ease of use. Thinking ahead, we installed blocking for a future floor-to-wall grab bar next to the toilet.
• Eliminating the large, difficult to use, jetted tub created a safer space.
• Additional lighting throughout the bathroom and shower, as well as inside the cabinets, enhances vision.
• A custom cherry vanity was designed for easy conversion to allow wheelchair access to the sink if ever needed.
