Filling a small space with several "rooms" creates the illusion of a more expansive landscape. Here, the Pergola covered patio was added with a side area for the BBQ. South of the patio, a privacy planting was installed to help with shading from the hot afternoon sun with a new sidewalk curved away from the lot line to present the guests with a colorful painting of plants instead of a direct view to the alleyway.
A secondary patio and garage wall espalier were added in the back for secret conversations, along with a trellised vegetable garden.
