Updating Structure

To begin this project, the structure of the landscape was completely updated. The original asphalt driveway was cracked and not level. The drainage from the downspouts poured water onto the driveway and a large Yew hedge along both sides of the driveway blocked the front of the house.

The banding of reclaimed bricks will help with drainage and the front steps were repaired. The lower landing was reconfigured so that cars would not drive over the limestone. This is the area were water poured onto the driveway, so lines were installed under to move the water to the lawn area.

The side walkway was concrete and this small area always had a drainage problem. Reclaimed brick and a gravel swale were added to help the water percolate into the ground, along with underground PVC to direct the water to the gardens.

The entrance to the backyard was originally tight with structures on either side that were too close to the gate. A small combination retaining wall and knee wall were installed further back and the other raised bed was removed.

The BBQ used to sit to the left of the homes entrance, being viewed from the kitchen. It was moved to another location and the old patio was widened and extended to make the area more apart of the backyard and create a nicer view from the kitchen window.
