Fawngrove Transitional Kitchen & Screen Porch in Ashburn

With a young family and planning to stay in their home for the long term, this Ashburn couple were ready to shake things up! Better functionality and a larger Kitchen with improved utilization of space were the key design goals. We expanded and reconfigured the Kitchen and created a floor plan that includes a large island with lots of seating for the family.

The changes didn’t stop there! We also added a screen porch with an entrance off the Kitchen. With a large garden at the rear of the home, the porch is now the perfect place to sit and watch the kiddos - or to enjoy some downtime together as a family.

Seen from another angle, moving the exterior door location to create an entrance to a new screen porch adds additional light and creates more space for cabinetry along the far wall. CoreTEC luxury vinyl tile (LVT) in “Alabaster Oak” was used throughout the Kitchen and Laundry (not shown).

Before - the refrigerator was positioned against a wall, separated from the rest of the appliances in the existing Kitchen.

We relocated the refrigerator to be on the same wall as the new KitchenAid gas cooktop and microwave drawer (in the island) - a much more functional location. An Avallon under-counter beverage center is now on the wall where the existing refrigerator once was, along with a Mirabelle “Sitka” bar...

The new KitchenAid 36” french door refrigerator is now located near the entrance to the separate dining room and is within easy reach of the rest of the Kitchen. Sherwin Williams "Alpaca" paint was used throughout the Kitchen, Laundry and Hall/Mud Area (not shown).

Before - the sink was tucked away in a back corner of the Kitchen. Although there were two windows facing the yard, the corner felt dark and cramped.

The sink was relocated from a dark corner and the new Signature Hardware "Reinhard" apron-front sink now looks out over the back yard from a large window. A perfect spot to keep an eye on the kiddos when they are playing outside.

A new screen porch was added to the left of the home, seamlessly blending with the original home. The expanded Kitchen now overlooks the yard, but the original door to an existing deck was relocated to allow entrance through the porch, and a small deck with space for grilling was retained.
