Lumsden Modern Basement Remodel in McLean

It’s all about family and friends for these clients who were ready to transform their “ok” basement into a magazine-worthy gathering and entertainment space. We started in the Rec Room, turning the fireplace into a central focal point. We located an industrial-style furniture-piece seating counter behind plush theater chairs for maximum entertainment comfort!

The Basement Bar was increased in size and completely reconfigured. Darker wood and glass cabinets now provide lots of room for storage along with floating shelves for display of an enviable whiskey and drinks collection. A copper bar sink and black fixtures keep the look modern and continue the industrial feel.

Beyond the Rec Room, we also remodeled both the Basement and Main Level Powder Rooms as well as refinishing the Home Gym.

The end result is a truly family- (and dog!) friendly space packed with personality and ready for making memories.

After - Shiplap was used on the walls by the fireplace and also on the walls at the bar counter to provide continuity. The “Specialty Brick” tile in the color “Grego,” from Conestoga Tile, pops against the white of the shiplap.

After - a few simple updates such as the new Sports Company “Black/Gray Speck” rubber flooring from ProSource and repurposing the cabinet previously used for the T.V. in the rec room, make this feel like a whole new space!

Before - the Basement Powder Room already had nice fixtures, but it was ready for a little more pep!

After - we added shiplap wainscoting to the lower half of the walls in the Powder Room, painted with Benjamin Moore “Chantilly Lace” paint in a matte finish. Benjamin Moore “Kendall Charcoal” paint (also matte) on the upper half of the walls brings this room right up to date.

The Main Level Powder Room was nice, but a few more design details take this Main Level Powder Room up a notch.

After - custom board & batten wainscoting was added in the Powder Room and painted in Benjamin Moore “Chantilly Lace” with Benjamin Moore “Anew Gray” on the upper walls. The new paint colors are perfect in this small - but important - room.
