Oakton Kitchen, Sunroom, & Basement

Our clients had a beautiful large house but it was desperately in need of an update. The renovation gave the old dark kitchen and mismatching sunroom a dramatic facelift! Custom two-toned cabinetry, all new finishes and lighting, and a reconfigured island help to update the space. A large new opening to the sunroom and a reconfigured ceiling make the space airy and inviting.

The opening between the kitchen and sunroom was doubled in size during the renovation, encouraging a better flow and relationship between the kitchen and seating area. All new light tile floors tie the two spaces together and make the space feel airy and inviting.

The kitchen layout was reconfigured once the sunroom opening was widened. The range was given a place of special significance, and the sink in the island creates a compact work circle.

The custom inset door cabinetry was stained two different colors for interest and to tie together the various woods in the house. The espresso-colored range surround and hutch cabinetry anchor the room, with the rest of the cabinetry stained in a homey honey color.

To create a focal point around the large luxury range, a custom range surround was created with cabinetry. The hood is enclosed behind non-functioning doors, with a mantle and arch valance. Surrounding cabinets are accented by corbels and fluted columns.

Behind the range is a special tile focal point. The natural stone subway tile is inlayed with a rectangle consisting of two rows of the mosaic, as well as small marble tiles in a herringbone pattern.

The main field tile, a Crema Marfil marble subway, has a brushed finish for a rustic feel. A pencil in Wooden Yellow marble borders the two rows of mixed mosaic and the richly colored 2"x4" Wooden Yellow marble tiles.

With the widened kitchen-to-sunroom opening, the new angled ceiling, and the skylights, the sunroom is now bright and open. Interaction between the two spaces is natural and easy, and the kitchen now has a wonderful view of the backyard and pool, which was previously obscured and unappreciated.
