Reston Kitchen

This open and functional kitchen once was cramped and crowded. After expanding the space, this new, fresh version emerged. Creating openings in the walls "expanded" the space and allowed relaxed conversation between the kitchen, informal dining area, and informal living room.

Making efficient use of a modest budget, the homeowners of this kitchen were able to achieve a more spacious galley layout, a pass-through for visibility to the stairs, and all new appliances, fixtures, and cabinetry.

The light-colored cabinetry is continued into the dining area to further warm up the space. A full-height pantry cabinet as well as upper and base cabinetry adds storage.

A previously cramped galley kitchen is expanded into the hallway area between the kitchen and stairs. The extra room allows for more maneuvering space for the cook, as well as additional cabinetry. A pass-through to the hall gives visual access to the stairway.

A thin pass-through between the kitchen and the hallway creates visual sight lines and makes the kitchen feel more open.

The reworked kitchen includes a peninsula to open it up to the dining room, a doorway to the front room, and a pass-through to create a sightline to the hallway/stairs.
