Lower-Level Remodeling Project in Great Falls, VA

As the client desired additional space for their growing family, this remodeling project in Great Falls, Virginia entailed a total renovation of the home’s lower level in order to create finished spaces designed with each family member in mind. The goal for the design build contractor was to define Individual program areas while making the most of the circulation throughout the entire space.

At the bottom of the stairs is a custom built-in desk, which serves as a scrapbooking area for the homeowner, as well as a place for the children to do arts and crafts projects. The cabinets and drawers provide ample storage for all of the related supplies. The adjacent room serves as a lower-level family room and media area. The room includes comfortable seating for the whole family, built-in audio speakers and display areas and space for the owner’s fitness machines and equipment.

Down the hall is the children’s play room with ample built-in storage for toys and games. Off of this room is a renovated full bath for family and guests. The original bath was elevated, and included a step up into the room. The slab was removed and plumbing lowered to make for a better connection.

Through the custom sliding pocket doors is the bar area, which was designed for entertaining guests both in the house and at the pool. The full wall of custom built-ins provides significant storage space and houses another television and media equipment. The built-ins also conceal a hidden Murphy bed, which allows the homeowners to accommodate occasional overnight guests without sacrificing valuable space. Two sets of French doors were added and the patio was remodeled and expanded to improve access to the pool area, and to make a more appropriate exterior statement.
