We absolutely loved working with this family! When we first saw the space, we immediately recognized its amazing potential. The family had acquired a large amount of toys, which were scattered throughout the room. Our challenge was to design the space for a 4 year old boy, 2 year old girl and one on the way (gender a surprise)! We wanted to add educational centers throughout the room to keep the children engaged in meaningful, creative activities. We custom-designed the open shelving, which is used to store building materials and manipulatives. We designed and built the child-size table for the children to do art projects and work with manipulatives. The new table and shelving will keep the toys and materials easily accessible and organized. In addition, we designed and built this amazing playhouse with slide! The addition of a market naturally encourages literacy and writing opportunities in this area. To complete the project, we purchased open-ended toys and materials. All baskets and bins are labeled with photos and words so even children who cannot read may exercise their cognitive skills by learning how to match the toy with the picture on the storage bin!
