Smart Playrooms

We were so excited to get to work with the Apartment Building Board for this brand new Long Island City communal playroom project. This room was designed to be a media room, but after much thought, the building residents decided that they really needed a playroom. We were asked to design a kid's playroom but also keep a few of the media components, like adult seating and a television on the wall. As with all of our projects, the first thing we do is to brainstorm the various activities that we want to include in the room. After much thought, we decided to include a pretend play area, a building area, and a small physical play area. The room is about 24 feet by 28 feet with really high ceilings. So not a huge space, but certainly with careful fully planning, we could incorporate a variety of activities so the kid's will want to play int he room for hours! While we are known to use mostly muted grays and whites in our playrooms, this client wanted us to bring color and energy to the space... so we carefully chose a lot of bright energetic colors to make the room inviting and cheery but not overwhelming. We absolutely LOVED the way it came out!
