This whole house remodel, designed by Susan Sherwin, completely transformed this 2,000 sq. ft. home located on the Santa Barbara Riviera. The permitted plan set only called for a 16 sq. ft. net addition for a little extra room in the updated kitchen, which now opens to the dining room and features white custom cabinets, marble countertops, oak floors, and new appliances. One of the major changes to the house was the new entry where a new front door and new stairs leading to the second story were added. A small opening in the wall between the kitchen and entry allows whoever is working in the kitchen to see who is knocking at the front door. The original siding and roof remain, however new insulation was added to all walls and the roof, along with new doors and windows throughout. New heating systems for both the first and second floors, together with a new tankless water heater, have improved the energy efficiency of the house.

The backyard now features multiple Santa Barbara sandstone patios, a new retaining wall, a built in BBQ and fireplace, and all-new landscaping. It is the epitome of a Riviera whole house remodel. (Photographer: Jim Bartsch
