Tuscan Hillside Home

The owners couldn’t resist this lot’s beauty, despite its obstacles, and worked long and hard with their architect and builder to create the home of their dreams. This was accomplished by working outside of the site’s 30% slopes, setting the house at the base of the steepest hillside (with substantial retaining walls), and creatively incorporating a grand cobblestone entry, driveway, and parking area. These challenges resulted in an irregularly shaped building envelope but did not compromise the final product: a beautiful Tuscan hillside home with 1800 views of the Pacific Ocean. In keeping with the owner’s Italian origins, the interior incorporates authentic antique beams, flooring, tile, and fireplaces. The 5,400 square foot home also features state of the art lighting, automated controls, and mixed media. The lower level of the home, built against the hillside to comply with a strict, local building height ordinance, includes three bedrooms, two baths, media room, golf simulator room, and spacious gymnasium. An 800 square foot guest house sits to the west of the main house. (Architect: Don Nulty)
