Kitchen remodel to an existing ranch style house. The old kitchen was removed and the new kitchen and breakfast area completely transformed the core of the house. Maple cabinets and maple flooring created an overall unified look. The owner was very concerned about adding light to the kitchen. This the existing space was on the north side of the house, and she didn't want the added expense to move the kitchen elsewhere, we told several measures to brighten up the space. The first measure was to select a lighter material palate in the finishes. We also made sure not to reduce the sizes of the two windows and two skylights in the space. Lastly, we paid particular attention to the artificial lighting design and filled in light where it did not existing sufficiently. Other features included a convenient pass through to the dining area at the built in desk in the kitchen. The owner worked from the home part time and asked us to design a place to store files and use the telephone. Increasing and maximizing storage was also a high priority.
