Building a deck level to the family room gave the impression that the family room extended into the back yard and it also allowed us to design an over exaggerated stairway that could double as extra seating during big family gatherings. The steps were lit for safety.
A simple slate material set in a pattern helps define the lower patio level as a slightly more formal sitting area and the addition of the gas fireplace pit makes for a nice conversation piece.
