Arlington Luxe High Rise Kitchen

A rich, functional kitchen for a successful entrepreneur in a well placed high rise building in Arlington's Crystal City. We fulfilled his wish for a masculine space in warm dark lyptus wood with great sparkling glass accents and a knock out Cianitus granite counter top. Moving the refrigerator to another wall and replacing the boring old one with a 48" Viking built in created a much more usable kitchen.

We covered the dishwasher with a matching panel to avoid two stainless steel items next to each other; the lines are much cleaner. Note the water filter faucet and main faucet, both from Grohe.

Lots of sparkling finishes but also a well designed cooking layout. The trash base is beside the cook top with a lazy susan and a generous four drawer base in the main prep area. There are full extension pull outs below the cook top for pots and pans.

The refrigerator had been where the wall oven and microwave are now; it jutted in to the hallway and was awkward to access.

The client was adamant about having convenient water access through the refrigerator door. Because of the overhead soffit at 83" we had realissues finding a built in refrigerator that would work in this space; the Viking unit worked perfectly.

With varying ceiling heights lighting was a bit of a challenge. This area over the kitchen proper was the solid concrete section; once again Tech Lighting supplied the fixture that worked.

Here we look into the kitchen eating area. Originally there were wall cabinets hanging across this space and blocking the openness. Taking them our and replacing them with the pendant lights created a visual separation but not a solid wall.

We really love using this Elkay sink (eluh2118). It is such a space saver in the kitchen; it fits in a 24" sink base and allows the adjacent cabinets maximum width of drawers, etc. The sink is made in the USA.

Here is what the space did look like. The refrigerator access is awkward as you stand blocking the entry hall when opening it. The double sink is more sink than a small kitchen needs; builders love double sinks, the sinks are cheap and the cabinet below (with no shelves or drawers) is also cheap.

The before did have euro style frameless cabinets but they were very dated at this point. The dishwasher sat in front of the main cooking prep area.

These peninsula wall cabinets had to go. They cut the space up, making the kitchen very small.

You will see in the renovated kitchen that we completely eliminated these doors and interior shelves. Bringing the refrigerator into this space and then extending base and wall cabinets brought the full kitchen together, integrating the seating area with the rest of the kitchen.
