Great Falls, VA Contemporary Master Bath

Master bath renovation in Great Falls, VA. Wonderful contemporary home set deep in the woods, custom built 35 years previously. Bath was cluttered and a bit dowdy. The client had already decided that she would like the wall between the vanity area and the toilet/shower area cut down - what a difference! The 12" high soffit/ductwork over the tub had to stay so we lined the tile up with it for a clean flow. The mirrors are set 12" from the ceiling to keep the full tile flow. The bottom of the mirrors were lined up with the top of the knee wall at 42"; clean lines all around.

By reducing the full wall with a door to a "knee" wall at the end of the vanity the space is opened and appears much larger. The sophisticated warm greys create a soft contemporary palate. Note the full wall is tiled; we left a space in the tile and set the mirrors into it.

Clean, contemporary lines, great lighting. Note the mirrors are inset into the tile which covers all of the visible walls. The switches and outlets from Lutron were color coordinated to the tile finish so that they blended best into the design whole. The hvac vent visible in the mirror was...

The visible recessed light fixtures double as exhaust vents; the havc supply vent between the recessed fixtures is a custom cover. The shower enclosure has a nice "loft" quality to it. The light fixtures are from Tech Lighting.

The floor tile was the same as the wall tile for this project. The floor tile was twice as big (24" X 24" as compared to the walls at 12" X 12"). The photo shows the clean transition from the wood foor to the tile. The grout lines are minimal as we used articulated color body porcelain tiles...

Detail of the tiling on the thop of the "knee" wall. The solid body porcelain tile allowed the tile installer to grind down the sides of the bullnose tile on the end to line it up with the tile thickness below. Beautiful execution. Tile is from Dal Tile.
