Boulder Sunroom/Deck Additions
We love the small personalized design projects. This being a two part project that needed to blend perfectly at the apex was particularly fun and challenging to work on.
The owners of this somewhat dated contemporary home in North Boulder Colorado are high profile gardeners and wanted to make extensive use of their generous backyard view which had no views from the original floorplan.
We subsequently pushed a delightful den out to the west and into the landscape. Secondly, a Brazilian rosewood wraparound deck was added to the west and south placing the entertainment area squarely in the center of the landscape to the south. The deck has two corners lopped off at forty five degree angles with integral steps that invite guests out into the garden.
Several challenges had to be overcome in the design:
Firstly, to open the home to the south while maintaining privacy from the neighbor on the north.
Secondly to preserve the egress window above the proposed addition without creating a flat roof above to new Den; to create privacy for this bedroom; and maintain solar access and views as well.
Thirdly, to create party space in the yard while directing attention to the south garden areas.
Fourth, to preserve the mature shade giving locust just a few feet from the addition.
Lastly, to create a barbecue are out of the way of traffic yet accessible to the food preparation area.
