Starting with a very narrow, long and skinny lot at the Ranch Reserve community in Westminster Colorado, the immediate challenge was how to create and design a home that could fit within the footprint of the prescribed setbacks. The resulting house design is stretched but not in a monotonous way. It is instead, broken up into traditional forms or chunks that allow the eye a resting place from time to time.
In order to maintain a minimal height profile (of what appeared from the street to be an overwhelming mass), the roof was allowed to drop down and rest at the main level plate height - thereby keeping the profile much lower than a market stacked two story home. From there we punched dormers into the steep roof creating upper level living spaces. The finished affect is one of dramatic traditional forms stretched out along the road in a theatrical texture of stone, stucco, and tile.
