Older homes present numerous challenges. This home had poor accessibility and use of space in the bathroom, kitchen and stairwell to the basement. We took out walls blocking the windows in the small bathroom and re-oriented the tub/shower, adding a towel cubbie. This increased the feel and improved the light in the small space. The compact kitchen was opened up to create as much counter space as possible. In re-framing the stairs into the basement, we gained space for an eating nook and generous pantry cabinet in what would have been a wasted “dead area” above the stairs.
