Accessory dwelling unit and aging in place. Our clients reside in New Hampshire, and their kids in Portland own a home with an ADU. They will visit Portland part time to be closer to their grandchild, and rent the ADU as an AirBNB for the balance of the year for income. We remodeled this ADU to enhance its accessibility and comfort. We moved the laundry from inside the bathroom into its own closet to make room for a roll-in tile shower. Additional closet space creates a private/lockable “owners closet” and a guest closet. Additional accessibility upgrades and enhancements in the master bedroom, kitchen and living areas make the space more efficient, comfortable and accessible. A new tile fireplace with salvaged wood mantel create a warm, relaxing environment. The mantel features an “AV cubbie” to hide components and wires from view.
