Pineneedle Row, a Mississauga street known for its traditional homes, lush landscape, and multitude of David Small designs, now features this natural modern renovation. David transformed this 1960s traditional bungalow into a 2-storey modern home.

This project posed an interesting challenge: a 45ft cliff. The back of the property has a steep drop off to the Credit River Ravine below. While this allowed for breathtaking views of the valley, it created a heightened concern for structural stability.

Rather than working against the unique elements of the lot, the design incorporates the natural surroundings and outstanding viewpoints. The contemporary design uses natural materials – rich hardwoods and organic stone – to create warmth, and horizontal lines – from the extreme horizontal roofline to the orientation of the wood and stone – to help ground the building to the property.
