This small kitchen project in a Toronto (Leaside) semi-detached home involved removing the load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room and installing IKEA cabinetry with "Bjorket" birch doors, custom-lacquered in a white tone that matches the stock IKEA "Forbattra" White cabinet cover panels. A matching crown molding was also added at the top of the wall cabinets and pantries. In this project, the client opted for a peninsula rather than a free-standing island, as she wished to have a large pullout pantry in the kitchen (from which the peninsula projects). The existing tile floor was removed from the kitchen and hallway and replaced with site-finished red oak that matches the original narrow plank oak flooring that commonly prevails in these older Toronto homes.
