Castle Pines Home 12
When entering the house, the first thing you saw was the wall of windows behind the sofa. The client wanted to create a warm and cozy space, but function needed to take priority over fashion for the the following reasons: 1. She has 3 little ones under 4 years old. 2. The family room was very narrow. 3. She had a budget she wanted me to work with.
With those all in mind, I felt that we should ignore the side window and focus on the main focal point, the wall of windows by the niche. To maximize the budget, I added interlining to the one width drapes to create a more substantial drape. I then pleated to pattern to enhance the geometric pattern.
In the kitchen, the client wanted a top treatment that tied in with the family room. Here I fabricated the 2 roman shades with 3.5" side returns (so a shade could be added to the slider at a later date). Not shown in the photos was a dark teal accent wall that was to the left of the family room. In order to have the mock roman shades stand out against the white blinds, I added a 2.5" solid teal band to the romans that matched the accent wall. The 2 roman shades were then hung at the same height as the drapes to create a line of continuity and hide the irregular height of the windows. Now the room has a cozy, welcoming family friendly design!
