Restored Antique Farmhouse
Our client had an antique cape/Greek revival from the late 1800’s that needed a complete gut renovation & new mechanical systems installed. The home was 2 separate buildings connected by a small 5’ x 5’ structure. The original kitchen & dining area had a less than full height 2nd floor above which was removed & the ceiling above the kitchen & dining area was raised allowing for transom windows, additional natural light & natural cooling of the space. Interior walls were removed & structural reinforcement was installed to create larger rooms from the existing choppy spaces that are inherent in a traditional cape. The wide plank original floors-referred to as “king’s boards” were salvaged, reinstalled & refinished throughout the home. A master bath was added to the property.
The kitchen is a highly, functional true working chef’s kitchen with butcher block countertops. The newly built entry area that joins the two original houses has a blue stone floor that extends out to the backyard. All the original leaded glass windows were refurbished & reinstalled. All the plumbing bathroom fixtures (tubs & pedestal sinks) are antique. Most furnishings & light fixtures are vintage/antique.
