1960's Ranch Renovation

This existing 1960's ranch was near its end of life when rescued by the owner. It’s interior was extensively gutted and renovated, thereby saving the embodied energy contained within the existing structure.

Specific issues that were addressed included completely opening up an office to the main family room space by incorporating sliding 3-Form panels that stow away within architecturally detailed thickened wall projections, reconfiguring the existing bedrooms and bathrooms, reconfiguring the kitchen, and completely building out the basement for a bedroom suite and very livable den space.

Skylights were added to the ceiling, and the beams, which were originally a very dark wood, were painted off white.

This is the view into the kitchen from the family room. The open plan allows for significant natural light to be shared throughout the space. The high windows to the right were added in the renovate. The stairs to the basement were rebuilt with a modern railing system.

Dining Room & Kitchen

This kitchen was completely rebuilt as part of this renovation project. The island countertop is made from reclaimed granite that was literally rescued on its way to the landfill.

The kitchen was completely redesigned for this home. Note the fixed windows flanking the stove that are set directly under the cabinets and run to the countertop. The granite island countertop was salvaged from another job.

This sunroom was completely rebuilt to fix a number of issues. The existing sliding doors were cheap and all aluminum, the beams and skylights were in terrible shape, and the flooring was brick.

The operable, sliding doors to the office were added, allowing the office to be completely opened to the family room and kitchen. Even when closed, the lights in the office illuminate the 3-Form door system. The 3-Form material has bamboo sticks set within it.

Bedroom

All the windows were replaced with new energy efficient units, and skylights were added throughout to increase the home's natural light and ventilation.

Mater Bedroom Skylights

This basement was a rare, unfinished concrete space prior to the renovation. It now has a kitchenette, den, storage, mechanical space, guest room with full bath and a laundry.

This bathroom was completely redone and reconfigured. Prior to renovation, it had serious mold issues and was original to the 1960's home. It is now completely up to date with proper detailing.
