This is a single family ranch home on track for LEED Platinum certification, the first such home in the progressive town of Evanston, IL.

The home is designed as all electric, in part to utilize as much renewable energy as possible as well as to completely eliminate any use of fracked natural gas. A 7 kW solar PV array on the roof will provide a substantial amount of the home's electrical power, with the remainder coming from 100% renewable energy from a contract negotiated by the City of Evanston for it's residents.

The home's energy load is greatly reduced by energy modeling done by the architect (Kipnis Architecture + Planning). Natural ventilation and daylighting, ultra high insulation and air sealing, in conjunction with orientation specific glazing selections all combine to greatly reduce the home's energy load.

The amazing interior space in the family room is highlighted by exposed glulam beams criss crossing high overhead. These form the butterfly roof as well as provide the window space for the clerestory windows.
