Four Square Home
This new home for a young family in Glenview combines traditional design with green concepts. The design is based on a traditional four square plan with a center entry. A groin vaulted entry hall defines the main space and sets up a view through the home. The kitchen features a custom designed banquet that incorporates a display niche which is centered with the entry and hides the banquet behind it, along with audio/video shelving hidden on its far side. The banquet also provides definition between the family room and the kitchen.
Green features include zoned radiant flooring set under prefinished 'strand' bamboo flooring. Marmoleum flooring in the laundry, low V.O.C. finishes, a very tight perimeter wall system that utilizes a blown cellulose made from recycled newsprint, cement fiber board siding set on a drainage plan system, engineered structural system, Energy Star appliances, and very high efficiency mechanical equipment. The traditional large double hung windows flood the interior with natural daylight and help with natural ventilation throughout.
