Mid-Century Modern Renovation

This was a renovation of the first floor of a Mid Century Modern home. The kitchen was hidden behind walls, totally isolated from the great room, and the materials were all very dated. The new design, which included the rest of the floor finishes and upgrading a number of the components, is much more open and bright.

This is the overview of the kitchen. The original kitchen was in place when we started the work. The idea was to make the new kitchen truly Mid Century.

This was the unfortunate situation prior to the renovation. The kitchen was completely hidden in a small room. The teal column that is in the new images was hidden in the kitchen's perimeter wall. The existing carpet and tile were also replaced during the renovation work.

This is the view from the kitchen out to the great room. An existing structural column had to remain, and it was painted a teal color.

A storage room is located behind the kitchen, and is accessed from a hidden door that matches the cabinetry.

The exhaust hood had to go around a significant structural beam. The cabinet housing that exhaust hood is set out in front of the other cabinets. The cooktop is a high performance zero emissions induction unit.
