Door County Getaway

This is a vacation getaway, located in an isolated forest, that sits on a sloping site. The existing water flow was carefully integrated into the design, set along one side of the house.

This all-electric home was designed for the extreme cold weather in Door County. Very high levels of insulation, triple glazed windows, and tight airsealing all combine to provide a very comfortable and healthy interior.

The front of the house is comprised of a carefully curated combination of exterior materials, which include cement fiberboard lap siding, cement fiberboard shingle siding, stone cladding and a standing seam metal roof. The third floor deck is located above the front entry.

This is the foyer that also has a built-in for coats and boots. The center of the three story staircase is dramatically aligned with the entry door.

This is the view from the kitchen, past the dining room and terminating in the family room. The open three story stairs have a metal railing system that leads up to a large skylight at the top of the third floor.

This bunk room can hold up to nine kids. Each bed has a custom designed niche that has an adjustable reading light, book shelves and a charging plug.
